How To Use

<p>Shake well before use. Because the formula is clean and silicone-free, slight separation is completely normal.</p><p>If you use any skincare product such as SPF or moisturizer, please allow 5-10 minutes for it to absorb before applying The Overachiever.</p>

Do I wear a rosacea shade on its own, or over or under another shade? +

On its own.

The redness-correcting shades are complete foundations, not color correctors. They neutralize the redness and give you coverage in the same step, so there is nothing to layer them under or over. One layer gives you a tinted moisturizer finish. Two layers give you a foundation finish.

The one exception is if your redness is heavy in some areas and barely there in others. In that case it can be worth getting two shades, one as your base and one for the areas that need more correction. If that sounds like your skin, send us a selfie and we will tell you whether one shade will do it all or whether you need two. Samples in two levels are an easy way to test that before committing to full bottles.

My redness is not rosacea. Will this still help? +

Yes.

Whether yours comes from sun damage, sensitivity, flushing, broken capillaries, marks left behind by breakouts, or skin that simply runs warm, the correcting shades work the same way.

The shade you need is chosen by how much redness you have rather than by what is behind it. That is why ours are described by level (light, moderate, and severe) instead of by condition.

Can I try it before I buy full size? +

Yes.

We make 10 ml samples of every shade for $18, and a custom blend sample for $22.

A sample is about a third of a full bottle. That is enough to judge it properly, see how you like it on your skin, and see how your skin benefits from it.

If you need help finding your shade, you can also send us a selfie of your face, neck, and upper chest to shadematch@puzzlemakeup.com, and we will tell you which shade is best for you, at no cost. For the most accurate match, take it in natural light but not direct sun, with bare skin and no products on it at all, against a white or light beige background.

If the shade is wrong, what does an exchange actually cost me? +

Nothing.

If your shade is not right, we will exchange it for a different shade for free. We send you a prepaid return label and ship your new shade at no charge, so you do not pay postage in either direction. You have 60 days from delivery to return or exchange.

Does it have SPF in it? +

The Overachiever does not contain SPF, and that is intentional.

To get true sun protection from makeup, you would need to apply far more than anyone realistically does, which can give a false sense of security.

You may notice titanium dioxide under "May Contain" in the ingredients. It is one of the pigments used to tint certain shades, and the amount in the formula is what the color needs, not what sun protection would require.

So we recommend applying a separate broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50 first, letting it absorb for 5 to 10 minutes, and then layering The Overachiever right on top. You get real sun protection plus the coverage.

I react to niacinamide. Is this going to be a problem? +

Possibly not.

Vitamin B3 exists in two forms. Niacinamide supports the skin barrier. Nicotinic acid, the form most people call niacin, is a vasodilator that widens blood vessels and produces exactly the flush that rosacea skin is already fighting. Lower-grade niacinamide can carry trace nicotinic acid left over from manufacturing, and on reactive skin that trace is enough. A lot of people who have been told to avoid niacinamide are really reacting to niacin.

The niacinamide in The Overachiever is screened for no residual nicotinic acid. We kept it in the formula because it earns its place on skin like this. It supports the barrier that holds moisture in, evens the look of uneven tone, softens the appearance of redness over time, and keeps afternoon shine in check without stripping anything.

That said, some people do react to niacinamide itself, usually at higher concentrations. If you have reacted before, start with the $18 sample rather than a full bottle.

How does it smell? I am sensitive to scents. +

The Overachiever is fragrance free.

No fragrance or perfume is added to it, and nothing is added to mask a scent either. That second part matters if you are sensitive, because plenty of products described as unscented are carrying a masking fragrance to cover the smell of the base.

Fragrance free is not always the same as odorless, but in this case it is both.

I have oily skin along with my rosacea. Will The Overachiever make me shinier? +

The Overachiever is a tinted moisturizer as well as a foundation, so it has a natural finish rather than a matte one, and on oily skin that can read slightly shiny by the end of the day.

Three things make the difference:

  • Skip your moisturizer underneath. The Overachiever is already doing that job, and doubling up is what makes it slide on oily skin.
  • Set it with our Pressed Face Powder, which is also a clean, breathable formula that takes the shine down and helps everything hold through the day.
  • Use one thin layer rather than a heavy one and build from there. For best results, apply it with our Wedge Sponge rather than fingers or a brush. The thin side of the sponge gives more coverage, and the thick side gives a sheerer finish.

Most of our clients with oily, rosacea-prone skin wear it exactly that way and find it holds without needing to touch up through the day.

Will it oxidize and go orange by the end of the day? +

No, it will not.

The Overachiever is built on a stable clean mineral pigment system, so the color you see when you blend it in is the color you have hours later. It does not shift warmer or turn orange as it sits in your skin's oils.

One thing worth knowing: The Overachiever for rosacea skin does look slightly gray for the first minute or so after you apply it. That is the redness-correcting pigment doing its work, and it settles into your skin as it warms up. That first minute is not the product oxidizing. It is the product working.
