Frequently Asked QUESTIONS

Returns and Exchanges

What is your return and exchange policy?

We want you to love what you bought. If it is not right, you can request a refund or an exchange within 60 days of delivery. Lightly used is completely fine, since you have to actually wear it on your own skin to know.

  • We send you a prepaid return label, at no cost to you
  • Shipping is not refunded. If your order shipped free, a $7.50 shipping charge comes out of your refund
  • Samples, gifts with purchase, and final sale items are not eligible for return or exchange
  • Your first shade match exchange is fully on us, including shipping on your replacement
  • After that, shipping on a replacement is a flat $7.50
  • Refunds are issued once your return reaches us, and usually appear within 5 to 10 business days depending on your bank

If we made the mistake, whether that is the wrong item, a missing item, or something that arrived damaged, we cover shipping in both directions and there is nothing for you to pay.

If you bought Puzzle somewhere other than puzzlemakeup.com, including Amazon, please start your return with that retailer, since they hold your order details and their policy applies. If you run into trouble, write to us at hello@puzzlemakeup.com and we will help where we can.

Shipping

Where is my order? How do I track it?

When your order ships you will receive a tracking number by email, with a link that takes you straight to the latest tracking information. You can also enter that number at USPS.com to see where your package is and the estimated delivery date.

If tracking has not updated in several days, or your package shows delivered and it is not there, write to us at hello@puzzlemakeup.com and we will sort it out with you.

What are your shipping costs and delivery schedule?

Orders $50 and over ship free.

For orders under $50, we charge you exactly what USPS charges us. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your address and the weight of your order, with no markup and no handling fee, so you will see the exact cost before you pay. Most orders go USPS Ground Advantage and arrive within 2 to 5 business days.

If you need it sooner, Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express are both available at checkout.

Holiday schedules may vary, please give extra time for your package to arrive.

What shipping options do you offer?

We ship with USPS, and you can choose from three services at checkout:

  • Ground Advantage, 2 to 5 business days
  • Priority Mail, 1 to 3 business days
  • Priority Mail Express, 1 to 2 business days

Orders $50 and over ship free with Ground Advantage. Orders are sent within 1 to 2 business days of being placed. Please choose your shipping method based on when you need it, and give extra time around holidays.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Orders are processed within 1 to 2 business days, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. After that, delivery depends on the service you chose at checkout: 2 to 5 business days for Ground Advantage, 1 to 3 for Priority Mail, and 1 to 2 for Priority Mail Express.

We are not able to reroute or change the address on an order once it has shipped, so please double check your address at checkout.

Orders and Payments

What forms of payment can I use online? Is it secure?

You can pay with all major credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All payments are securely processed through trusted providers like Stripe, Shopify Payments, and PayPal, and your information is encrypted and protected at checkout.

Feel free to visit their websites for more security information: Stripe.com and PayPal.com

How do I cancel my order?

We try to ship quickly once checkout is complete. If you did place an order in error, please contact us immediately via our form, email hello@puzzlemakeup.com, or phone 415-236-3773. We'll do our best to cancel the order before a shipment is sent.

Can I add or remove items to/from my order after I have placed it?

You can add or remove items as long as your order has not shipped yet, and the change reaches us the same day you ordered. Contact us through our form, email hello@puzzlemakeup.com, or call 415-236-3773, and we will combine everything into one shipment so you are not charged shipping twice.

Once an order has shipped we are not able to change it. Anything you add after that goes out as a new order with its own shipping.

I received my order but it is missing items. What should I do?

First, take a picture of the items that you received for verification, and send them to us at hello@puzzlemakeup.com. We will then confirm from there which items you are missing and send you the missing items free of charge, including free shipping.

I received the wrong product. How do I return an item?

If you received the wrong product, contact us immediately via our form, email hello@puzzlemakeup.com, or phone 415-236-3773. We will email you a return label that can be placed on the original box and be sent back to us via USPS. We will cover the shipping charges for both the return to us, and the shipment back to you.

I received my makeup and it was damaged, what should I do?

Please take a few photos of the damaged items and send them to hello@puzzlemakeup.com along with your order number. We will get a replacement out to you and cover shipping in both directions, and we will handle any claim with USPS on our end so you do not have to.

Please hold on to the original packaging until we have sorted it out, since USPS sometimes asks to see it.

About Puzzle and Puzzle Makeup Products

How do I know what skin tone/color I have?

Skin's undertone is either warm, cool, or neutral. Here are some easy tips to discover your skin tone. Also if you will go to our foundation page you will find pictures and descriptions of people with different skin tones.

If you tan easily and do not burn:
You are - warm undertone (most likely have a yellow-to-olive color)

If you burn or tan minimally or not at all:
You are - cooler undertone (pink, bluish-red, or ruddy)

If your skin tends to look somewhat ashen or gray, from the combination of the natural yellow undertone and the greenish shade:
You have - Olive skin tone

You may be somewhere in between neutral, cool to warm tones. Neutral skin tones are those with no obvious overtones of olive, yellow, or pink.

What if I have a condition like rosacea or acne?

Your undertone stays the same, but you will have more red, pink and peach in some areas. The Overachiever is clean, fragrance-free and silicone-free, with green and gray undertones in the redness-correcting shades that neutralize redness rather than burying it.

One layer gives you sheer, breathable coverage. Two layers build to foundation-level coverage. That matters for rosacea-prone skin, because heavy occlusive formulas can trap heat and make things worse. You get the coverage you want without smothering your skin.

For light redness we recommend Moonflower, for moderate Jasmine, and for severe Pearl Quartz. If you have redness with a medium or deeper skin tone, a custom blend is the better route, since the redness-correcting shades run light.

What if I'm not comfortable sending my picture, can I still buy the custom-blended foundation?

Unfortunately, not at this time, but please feel free to look at our standard foundation and powder colors here.

What does talc and paraben free mean?

Parabens:
Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetics. They are esters (a compound formed from acid and alcohol).
Companies use parabens to extend the shelf life of products and prevent growth of bacteria and fungi. But studies have shown that some parabens mimic hormones and have been found in some breast tumors.
Regardless of whether your makeup is mineral, organic, or has chemicals, the shelf life should not be more than two years unopened. And after you open your product—even if you didn't use it—you have 8 to 9 months to use it. After that, the bacteria and fungi will begin to grow in it.
We don’t believe in adding extra ingredients that might lead to harm when makeup should be used quickly anyway.

Talc:
Cosmetics companies use talc as an absorbent, anti-caking agent and to improve the feel of the product, so they don't have to use more expensive ingredients.
Studies have shown that products that have talc in them can cause cancer.
Products without talc and paraben are safer, apply better, feel smoother, and stay longer on your skin.
If we can pay a little bit more to make sure that our product is safer for you to use, we say that you're worth it!

How long before Puzzle products expire? What is the shelf life?

The shelf life should not be more than two years unopened. After you open your product, even if you don't use it, you have 8 to 9 months to use it. After that, bacteria and fungi may begin to grow in it.

How do I recycle my Puzzle products?

Our palettes have been created with recyclable paper that can be put in most recycle bins. Our palettes and products also use magnets to give you the ability to remove and replace individual products in the palette. We hope you can keep the palette boxes as long as possible and just swap out makeup to reduce plastic waste!

I have a beauty question. How do I ask it?
