How to Keep Eyeliner In Your Waterline
One of the hardest makeup applications to keep in place for the whole day is your eyeliner in the waterline. Whether it's a hot day, cold day, day or night, it often ends up all over your under eyes, ruining your entire makeup look.
The main reason for this problem is that most eyeliner pencils contain waxes, oils, silicones, and fats (yikes) to stabilize the formula so it sticks to your eyelids. But your waterline is right next to your eyeball, which never dries out.
Your eyeballs produce enough tears to keep your eyes wet and comfortable, protecting them from the outside environment. Tears are a mixture of water, oils, mucus, antibodies, and proteins that come from glands around your eyes. Tears form a protective film on the surface of your eye called the tear film, which has three layers:
- Outer Layer: An oily layer that reduces evaporation and spreads the tear film.
- Middle Layer: A watery layer that washes away debris like grit.
- Inner Layer: A sticky layer that coats the cornea and helps keep the tear film in place.
Blinking re-applies a new wet surface with each blink, spreading tears across the eyes and into the nose.
Because eyeliner contains waxes, oils, silicones, and fats, it can’t and won’t stick to your waterline for long. However, there is a simple way to prevent your waterline eyeliner from smearing. Here's how you do it:
- Apply Eyeliner: Start by applying back & forth movements of your eyeliner to the waterline.
- Set with Pressed Eyeshadow: Using an angled brush, press a matching pressed eyeshadow on top of the pencil liner in dabbing motions.
Although some pressed eyeshadows contain waxes and oils, our pressed dry formula will help the eyeliner stay in place without smearing. So you can smize without worry! Wink. Wink.
